Dennis Osadebe
Imagining Neo‑Africa in Vivid Colour

Dennis Osadebe, born in Lagos in 1991 and based in Nigeria, is a mixed‑media artist and sculptor celebrated for a vibrant, post‑pop aesthetic that merges digital imagery with acrylic paint. He describes his approach as “Neo‑African”, a movement he coined to challenge the restrictive label of “African Art” and encourage creative freedom beyond geographical expectations.
Identity, Technology and Surrealist Play
Osadebe’s signature style uses flattened geometric forms, bold palettes and recurring motifs like masks, helmets and abstract silhouettes to explore how tradition, technology and spirituality intersect.
His digital compositions are printed and then hand‑painted, making each piece unique and resisting mass reproduction, while inviting viewers to see themselves within the work.
Narrative that Bridges Past and Future
In his inaugural solo show Remember the Future in Lagos, Osadebe visualised Nigeria’s analogue past and digital present—inviting audiences to reflect on class, power and identity within a futurescape context.
His works evoke playful surrealism and carry deeper symbolism around community, progress and personal agency.
Collaborations and Institutional Reach
His sculptural series Stand For Something (2019), produced with 3D printing and bronze, reimagined traditional masks in contemporary form while embodying unity and self‑definition.
In 2023, Osadebe designed an installation titled Passing, Building & Victory for NBA Meets Art at ART X Lagos, celebrating teamwork and community through masked, stylised basketball figures.
His work has been exhibited internationally: London, New York, Miami, Paris, Berlin, Cape Town; solo shows include Modern Magic (London, 2022) and Factory Reset (Berlin, 2023).
Shaping the Future of African Creatives
Dennis Osadebe invites African creatives to redefine their own narratives: to merge ancestral symbols, contemporary life and future thinking into art that is at once personal, political and profoundly forward‑looking.
